What is the Image to Text (OCR)?

The Image to Text (OCR) tool reads printed or handwritten text from a photo, screenshot or scan and returns an editable transcript. The OCR engine runs inside your browser via WebAssembly, so document scans never leave your device.

English and Hindi are currently supported. The engine (~2 MB) downloads on first use and is cached afterwards.

How to use the Image to Text (OCR)

  1. 1Upload a photo or screenshot containing text.
  2. 2Choose the language (English or Hindi).
  3. 3Wait for the OCR engine to load (first time only) and recognise the text.
  4. 4Copy the transcript or download it as a .txt file.

Key features

  • English and Hindi recognition
  • Handles printed and handwritten text
  • Preserves basic line breaks
  • Copy or download as .txt
  • Fully in-browser via WebAssembly

Important notes

  • Accuracy depends on the source: printed text on clean backgrounds reads at 95%+, while handwriting and low-light photos land around 60–80%.

Can I OCR a PDF?

Export the PDF pages to images first, then run each image through this tool.

Why is the first recognition slow?
